Notice of Temporary Closure – Reserved Land (RL) 31900 – Margaret Diggings and RL 31910 – Spring Hill South

Please be advised that the proposed fossicking areas Reserved Land (RL) 31900 – Margaret Diggings and Reserved Land (RL) 31910 – Spring Hill South are temporarily closed until further notice.

The Northern Territory Government is working with the relevant pastoralist to improve safety controls within these proposed fossicking areas.

While these remedial works are being planned and undertaken, the areas will not be available for public access. The department appreciates your understanding and cooperation.

Proposed fossicking areas in the Northern Territory include:

Margaret Diggings

On 12 December 2012 an area of approximately 18 square kilometres in the Margaret Diggings region was gazetted by the Northern Territory Government. This area has significant interest and is well known for alluvial deposits of gold.

Spring Hill South

In February 2013 an area of approximately 13 square kilometres in the Spring Hill South region was gazetted by the Northern Territory Government. This area has significant interest and is well known for alluvial deposits of gold. The area also holds the historical McKinlay silver mine.

Wave Hill Extension

On 30 May 2012 an area of approximately 341 square kilometres surrounding existing Fossicking Area 8 was gazetted by the Northern Territory Government.
