Fred Fossicker attends 2023 Darwin 4WD, Boating and Camping Expo

28 Jun 2023

The NT Prospectors and Detectorists Association Inc (NTPDA) participated in the highly anticipated 2023 Darwin 4WD, Boating and Camping Expo. Our presence at the event was centred at the Top End Prospecting booth, where we had the honour of showcasing Fred, who was graciously provided by the Mineral Titles Unit of Mines Branch. Fred quickly became a crowd favourite, especially among the children, and numerous photos were taken with him, leaving a lasting impression on the attendees.

The primary objective of the NTPDA's participation in the Darwin Expo was to educate, motivate, and promote responsible fossicking and prospecting practices in the NT region. There was an overwhelming interest among the visitors regarding the rules and regulations surrounding land access for these activities, the application process for obtaining access to specific areas, and where to find information and data regarding mineral occurrences.

We took this opportunity to provide comprehensive education to those interested, emphasizing the importance of supporting and preserving the natural environment and cultural heritage while engaging in these activities. By raising awareness about the significance of responsible practices, we aim to foster a greater sense of stewardship among prospectors and detectorists, ensuring the sustainable use of our natural resources and the protection of our precious cultural heritage.

Through our presence at the Darwin Expo, we were able to reach a wide audience, including both enthusiasts and newcomers to fossicking and prospecting. By addressing their inquiries and sharing valuable insights, we believe that we have made a positive impact on the community, instilling a deeper appreciation for the environmental and cultural aspects associated with these activities.
